Driving / Technique
Performance Awareness
Knowing the various pieces of driving technique is useless if one does not put them into practice. However, it can be difficult to consciously drive on the limit differently than one already knows how.
Instead of using conscious effort to change one’s technique, ask questions about what one is doing and what one wants to be doing. Use conscious awareness to simply notice current technique (subconscious programmed driving) while bringing to mind an ideal technique.
By simply having these two concepts in mind at the same time, one’s mind will naturally and automatically compare the two. In this way, one does not need to effortfully critique oneself while driving, only notice what is and recall how it should be; one’s mind takes care of the rest.
Set Performance
Use your pre-established trigger words to initiate the proper state of mind and intention for the current context of the race.
Pacing triggers each lap will help one remember their current pace, and event triggers can help one set the proper internal state for a given situation.
Center Yourself
Use the centering technique of resting one’s tongue on the roof of one’s mouth and breathing calmly to stay centered while driving.
